Before we ever built homes, we farmed this valley.
For more than a century, our family has worked the land in Yuma. Farming teaches you to respect the process and to take responsibility for the outcome. It teaches patience. It teaches consistency. That mindset still shapes how we build today.
Hacienda Homes was founded in 1977 as Kammann Development. Over time, it evolved into one of Yuma’s most established semi-custom home builders. For more than 25 years, we have focused on creating homes that reflect the way people in this community truly live. Floor plans feel open without being oversized. Exteriors are timeless rather than trendy. Details are chosen with intention so the home feels right not just on day one, but years later.
We understand Yuma because we are part of it. We know the climate, the pace of life, and what homeowners here value. Many of us live in the homes we build, which holds us to a higher standard. The expectation is simple. If it would not be good enough for our own families, it is not good enough for our clients.
From the first conversation through final construction, our team works closely with each homeowner to make the experience steady and straightforward. Building a home is a significant decision. It should feel personal and well guided, not overwhelming.

Late 1800s
Putting Down Roots
Our story in the Yuma Valley began in the late 1800s, when Finley Barkley came west to homestead along the Colorado River. His original claim laid the groundwork for what would become a multi-generational commitment to this desert community.
Early 1900s
Building a Foundation
Hugh Barkley and Leslie Patton Barkley established the family's agricultural foundation in the Valley. They cleared mesquite, leveled fields by mule team, and built a life in a region that had little infrastructure and few modern conveniences. Through floods, economic hardship, and two world wars, the family continued to farm, expand, and invest in Yuma. The land was not simply worked. It was carefully stewarded.
Mid-Century
A New Generation Leads
That foundation carried forward through James Finley "Jim" Barkley, whose leadership marked a significant chapter in the family's history. Jim expanded operations, embraced agricultural innovation, and helped shape what would become the Barkley Company and its related enterprises. His approach was disciplined and forward-thinking, grounded in the belief that decisions should serve the next generation.

Beyond the Fields
Over time, the family's work evolved beyond farming into land, development, and real estate. Today, fourth and fifth generation family members continue to live and work in Yuma. We are not newcomers to this Valley. It shaped our values, our work ethic, and our long-term perspective.
